Friends of Diverse Learners
Friends of Diverse Learners (FODL) is Little Silver’s Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG). We are a group of parents working together to enhance the education of children who have different learning styles. Our goal is to bring families in similar situations together to share information about the education, health and well being of our children, provide support for one another, and provide input to the school district on issues concerning students with disabilities. LSFODL is an active participant in Two Rivers Friend of Diverse Learners, a regional group. For more information on FODL activities and meetings, contact chair Cate Knight or any of our core committee members listed below.

Friends of Diverse Learners
Friends of Diverse Learners (FODL) is a group of LSPTO parents working together to enhance the education of children who have different learning styles. The goal is to bring families in similar situations together to share information about the health and well being of all our children and to provide support for one another. We also facilitate meetings and discussions for the Parent Advisory Council (PAC). LSFODL is an active participant in Two River Friends of Diverse Learners, a regional group. We collaborate with the Two River districts to offer support group meetings and bring in guest speakers for parents. For more information on FODL activities, meetings or to be added to the FODL mailing list, contact co-chairs Maria Wood at email address bears22627@yahoo.com or Cate Knight at email address catemknight@gmail.com
More about Maria & Cate…
Maria Wood — I am the mother to three boys, 16 (ADHD/Sensory Processing), 11 (Dyspraxia/ADHD), and 8 (Autism/ADHD). I have taken SPAN’s (NJ Advocacy Network) SRP (SPAN Resource Parent) and SEVA (Special Education Volunteer Advocate) courses. I welcome discussion about my children, their abilities and their struggles and enjoy helping other moms and dads navigate the winding road we walk as special needs parents.
Cate Knight – I am the mother to two boys and a girl, all of whom attend Point Road School. I have personal experience with apraxia of speech, ADHD, congenital cataracts, global developmental delay and learning disabilities. I have taken SPAN Parent Advocacy Network’s SRP (SPAN Resource Parent) course and am happy to speak with any caregivers about my experiences with special needs and try to help others who may have questions about navigating the school system or more general resources for their child.
Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
All parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend the Little Silver Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings, facilitated by the Director of Special Services. This council is a wonderful way to “get involved” and be part of a dynamic group whose goal is to improve and support local special education efforts and programs. Typically four meetings are scheduled during the school year.
